How to Prepare to Summit Kilimanjaro in 30 Days!

How to Prepare to Summit Kilimanjaro in 30 Days!

For those of you who don’t know, Kilimanjaro is the tallest peak in Africa and the tallest free standing mountain in the world. At the top you are above the clouds at 19,341 feet. So, yeah you can say the air is pretty much non existent at that point. But, 6 crazy girls are going to take on this challenge. We will be spending 6 days trekking our way up the Machame route, and I’ve compiled a packing list to get us up there.

Snow in the PNW: Hiking to Lake Serene and Mount Storm King with Instagram Friends

Snow always seems to grace us here in the PNW in February. Last week I was a busy girl hiking to Lake 22, Lake Serene, and Mount Storm King. So here’s a quick little post catching up on all my adventures around here in Washington since I moved back from Portland. Have a day without rain in the forecast? These hikes are great to dayhike, even in the winter!

The Yoga Culture: Should You Plan a Trip to Nusa Penida? Spontaneous vs. Planned

The Yoga Culture: Should You Plan a Trip to Nusa Penida? Spontaneous vs. Planned

Sometimes travel really does need planning ahead of time and putting in a little bit of extra time researching your destinations to make the memorable adventures seem as seamless, safe, and dreamlike as they really are. Here are some tips when planning a trip to Nusa Penida, including the Kelingling Beach hike and most importantly… HELMETS!

You Had Me at Sunrise, Oahu: Lanikai Pillbox Hike

You Had Me at Sunrise, Oahu: Lanikai Pillbox Hike

Sunrise Destination? Lanikai Pillbox Hike. Living close to Wahiawa, we had a short travel distance towards Kailua, which is only about a 35-minute drive in the morning if you can beat the traffic. Sunrise hikes are always worth the sleepy eyes and grumpiness for the first 10 minutes of the day, I swear.

Bend Roadtrip: Broken Top Crater and Smith Rock State Park

Bend Roadtrip: Broken Top Crater and Smith Rock State Park

We took a road trip from Portland to Bend to explore, brunch, climb some mountains, and finally explore Smith Rock State Park. We hiked Broken Top Crater to No Name Lake, be warned this road is definitely an adventure of it’s own. 4x4 vehicle is RECOMMENDED!

Trekking to Everest Base Camp: Guide To Get YOU There and Pharmacy Must-Haves!

Trekking to Everest Base Camp: Guide To Get YOU There and Pharmacy Must-Haves!

We were 9 days deep into the Himalayas. Hiking on average about 6 hours a day. And on April 11th, 2017 I was 17,598ft in the sky, at the base of the largest mountain in the world. I celebrated with my wonderful group of trekking partners and our two guides I met from Himalayan Wonders. We all had made it. How, you ask? A strong combination of desire, jokes, and knowing what to pack.

I'm Grumpy, Can We Go Camping Again Already?

This weekend was pretty uneventful. I defaulted to looking at photos and playing computer games while staying in. In the midst of tidying up my Photos Library I realized I didn't share our first camping trip of the season with our friends Kayla and Matt. I want NOTHING more than to be back in this sunshine and be dirty and scraped up from tripping over rocks, watching the sun set over Lake Wenatchee. The campground was at the state park, and although I usually prefer solitude of backpacking camping I was pleasantly surprised with how empty it was. I have my eye on a campsite at Glacier View next time were up that way. Check out the end of this post for some more camping tips :) I can't even recall the details of how it became decided to go to Lake Wenatchee, but we got the car packed up and headed east Friday after work. Got camp set up and busted out a board game. Mya joined us for a bit before she passed out in Kayla's arms.

We had talked my dad into coming over to Leavenworth to visit, so after some oatmeal in my Jetboil we drove around a bit and then went into town. This is where we stopped at the campsite on the other end of the lake, Glacier View Campground. Apparently this end sits in a little cove with little to no wind and attracts LOTS of mosquitos, we were in love with the views that a lot of the campsites had. We will be back to stay for sure after June when the bugs aren't so bad.

My dad rode over on his Indian and got his usual KOA campsite so we went to go hammock for a bit after our lunch at Fresh Burger Cafe– Not your typical german food but these guys know how to put together an amazing burger.

We decided to check out Hidden Lake, a small hike near Lake Wenatchee. We had a great time stumbling through the woods. It really ended our trip with a bang.

Some of my other favorite shots from this weekend were when we got back from our hike and went for a walk.

I highly recommend you find some of your favorite 'grammers and look at there maps. I promise it will encourage you to start building your own! With a trip plan in the works in June... I am excited to add more to mine. My USA map is pretty pathetic... but I just can't rationalize spending $500+ to go to the east coast when that money can get me to another country.

Raglan, NZ Reminiscing

Raglan, NZ Reminiscing

If you ever find yourself exploring the North Island of New Zealand, please promise me you will visit my favorite town I ever stumbled into. Raglan was one of those places that wasn't on my "plan" when I was mapping out where I wanted to travel to, but I'm so glad I ended up here. We spent a weekend filled with Good George Beer, Fish and Chips Takeaways, and new card games.

New Zealand Feelin: Avalanche Peak

New Zealand Feelin: Avalanche Peak

If you can't tell, I'm missing travel like crazy. I would give almost anything to be back in the southern alps with these stunning views. #newzealandfeelin is something I wanted to start for adventurers of all stages to collect inspiration for future travels, or if you just want to relive your favorite memories. Share with me your favorite photos and help cure my wanderlust. 🙏🏼

Home, Sweet Home. (Back Home from New Zealand)

Wow it's been too long since I've jumped on here. Looking back to when I first started this page I had no idea how the blog platform worked other than posting a few photos and typing some captions. More than a year later I have designed website for some awesome clients, graduated from college, and started my spark of traveling the world.

Anyways, I am switching to a new brand that I hope will take off to something exciting.

Upcoming are some excellent posts of my two months in New Zealand, (I have notes upon notes that I have been collecting over there waiting for decent wifi) and my spontaneous trip to Cali.

After that...

Yosemite?

Greece/Croatia

WA Coast/Olympic Range

AU?

LOTS MORE.

(You could say I have the bug.)

Thank you guys for being so patient, good stuff is on the way. Perhaps after I rid my closet of all the extras that didn't fit into my backpack for the last 8 weeks. (Inspired by this article and the wonderful creation of the minimalist fashion blog that is un-fancy.)

Index Wall

Just before you reach Steven's Pass in the upcoming months, I recommend you stop in the town of Index. Drive slow, stop at the stop sign, and if you see someone outside their house, wave! I have a soft spot for this hike because it's not something you find on WTA or crawling with hipsters. It's a trek to get up the wall, but worth the view. Shooting Sunrise on Camano Island

Just because it's December does not mean one must stay inside– unless you still have been procrastinating putting up a Christmas tree. (*raised hand emojii) Thursday night I reached out to a fellow loyal instagrammer and we decided we'd go shoot sunrise up north. It was my first experience meeting up with a stranger at dark, as well as walking through the woods, but i'm happy to report I am still alive! ;) IMG_6106 (1)IMG_6115 (1)

This is Calvin Blond! Check out his instagram for moody, epic landscape photography and coffee! He took the shot of the baby doe who didn't want to eat the apple I tried to give him/her.

We drove around Camano Island and decided to head east–I was craving mountains after Wednesday's adventure up at Index Wall (blog post to come). We found a family of deer, fog, and some great views up by Pilchuck.

7 Photos that will get you ready for winter in the PNW.

Baby it's cold outside... and I am loving every second of it! Last week I drove up with Mio and Dexter (The adorable miniature Australian Shepard mix with an Instagram) to Lake Diablo, only this time we actually found the lookout! (Stay tuned for a reflections post on our first time up there.) The sun had already set behind the mountains, making for some beautiful tones on the water. lake diablo perspective north cascades

Now for those of you who don't know me, don't know this little plum of mine either. Stella and I have grown up taking photos together, whether it's adventuring around in a golf cart in Kalama, WA or jumping in and out of the car for roadside attractions. These were taken on Mountain Loop Highway, where we found this freezing lake that we had to trekk through.

Now that snow has fallen in town I am expecting my instagram feed to turn white, and I have to say I am beyond ready for this holiday season. Be sure to follow me for updated adventures! @hellofrankenbery

Olympic Peninsula

Olympic Peninsula

We took the ferry to Kingston and drove passed Port Angles up to Hurricane Ridge. We had a beautiful 17 mile drive up the mountain road with plenty of places to stop and appreciate the scenery. We weren't quite ready to wrap up our trip, so we looked up other nearby places and I discovered WTA (Washington Trail Association) which allows you to access trip reports and nearby trails and parks.
