Looking for a perfect date night adventure movie? When I am not able to get outdoors, or stuck inside with a cold, I try to find something to watch that will keep my wanderlust and inspiration alive. Here are some of my favorite movies to watch cuddled up at home while you are waiting for your next adventure!
Even though we got a late start last Saturday morning we drove up North to take a ferry ride over to Friday Harbor. He has date idea hidden up his sleeve for some time and this one was perfect for the great weather we had in the midst of all this rain and wind. Sorry to those who are without power tonight! After a ice-cream + french fry stop we drove through downtown Anacortes where we stopped at Boxes and Bears Puzzles and Games where we found none other than...
John Van freaking Deusen.
Who is this lovely human?
Please improve your life by taking three minutes to watch this video:
Now the lucky owner of the cool Puzzle and Games store we found, he is living a 'rual lifestyle' in Anacortes with his family. (Source) We each got a hug before heading out towards the ferry line, where we tried curing a hangover with more alcohol. (I'll let you decide if you agree with these studies...)
Pro Tip: Bring fun activities. I don't think we prepared for the 2 hour ferry ride, but at least we had a pretty nice nap.
You can't get more Pacific Northwest than taking a ferry boat in some classic cloudy weather.
Some things I would share is if you go to an oceanfront town of any sorts, don't expect it to be as thriving as it is in the summertime. We luckily had practice in this when we got stuck in the i-5 mudslide on our road trip last December when we stayed in Seaside, OR... and I think it can make for some out of the ordinary memories. We got to drink a beer on the benches right in the middle of town, have a bookstore all to ourselves, and experience some usual service at Blue Water Bar and Grill. (save yourself the $80 check and make your own meatballs from home.)
Now to my favorite part of the evening,
the ferry ride home.
I don't have any images of this part so you'll have to use your imagination.
We were smart enough to stop at Kings Market, and grabbed a sketch book and some easter eggs. We filled it up with my 4lbs tub of Jelly Bellies (thanks mom) and hid eggs for each other on opposite sides of the ferry. We wrapped it up with some doodling.
If you don't know, october is my favorite month. I can't imagine living in a world without October. I love stepping on crunchy leaves and wearing dark purple lipstick. I love the cheesy halloween decorations that I put up with my dad and carving pumpkins. This adventure last Sunday was at the Farm at Swans Trail. Petting zoos, hand dipped corn dogs, and a little chilly sunshine made for the perfect day.
I solemly swear that I will start to post more because I GOT A NEW CAMERA. Canon 70D to be specific. I need to update some of the adventures that I have recently been on. Here is a cozy adventure right from the kitchen. Best. Grilled Cheese. EVER.
(I can't decide what made it so good, but it was either the company who made it or the half a stick of butter that was used on the outside.)
Was the greatest. (My posts seem to always have that opening statement, but I swear something about this night...) It was such a reward to be done with school today and just RELAX. I feel like it was the first night since we got back from Montana that we actually got a break.
We decided to take a little date night to target where we got some cute new bathroom essentials men never seem to think they need. While he cleaned up his apartment I set up the new shower bar, towels, and shower curtain. I wish we took before photos but just picture this:
atrocity. WITHOUT A SHOWER CURTAIN.
ha ha. Anyways here are the after pictures of the new setup!
Once the bathroom was done, I got to experience GrubHub. Basically, any metro area has people that will deliver food to you. So lets say you were craving thai and italian, they will go to each restaurant pick it up and deliver it right to you. THE BEST. Sorry for the kinda of blurry iPhone photos– I was in a rush to eat : ) Going to finish this evening off with fleece blankets and Dexter. It's crazy that January is already basically over. It's making summer seem like it's in the distant future. I can't wait.
Yeah, I have to say this one blew me out of the water. My friend Mio and I were feeling the holiday spirit this season. (Something I am NOT used to, I live for sunshine.) Here's a picture of his christmas tree:
I'm recently new to Sushi, and have been telling my friends I've wanted to try it. Now I can't get enough of it, favorites so far being Japonessa down on 1st Ave and the place he took me to, Sushi Kappo Tamura in East Lake. I'd like to consider myself having a good eye for design, and I have to say that the food was subpar to the actual restaurant itself. The atmosphere, sushi bar, and not to mention how the menus were placed in relation to the plateware all made me giddy. Definitely recommending trying the Salmon Skin Roll.
The next part of the evening was a surprise. I was not told where we were going but I got a clue to dress up warm. (Challenge Accepted.) We drive with Michael Bublé's Christmas Album playing nice and loud. And then hit traffic.
But no worries! Apparently it was all apart of the plan. We end up walking up to a childhood memory of mine, Candy Cane Lane. Are these local, or are they found everywhere? I know there is a spot up North as well. Anywhoo, it was not as grand as I recall as a child, but it was a very adorable surprise. Wrapped up the night with watching Love Actually and drinking Hot Chocolate and IPA. Very Classy ; )
Groupon from time to time will have deals on going to the Family Fun Center. Tip: MAKE THE DRIVE, and go to the location down south. Much more rewarding! Laser tag is one of the funnest ideas for double dates especially. Or mini golf. Basically anything with a little competition ; )
If you're from Seattle, you probably have already visited SAM. I always like visiting either on one of those rare 90 degree days for the free air conditioning, or on a wetter day when you want to get out of the house. But did you know that the Seattle Art Museum– as well as most arts organizations–have a free entry day the 1st Thursday of every month? I am a big fan of having fun, but doing it for free is an even better thing in my book.
You can also check out the free art walk in Seattle's historic Pioneer Square neighborhood, takes place from noon to 8PM on the First Thursday of every month. visit http://www.firstthursdayseattle.com/ for more information.
